Like most Taschen large art books,a work of art in itself. The pictures are high quality and lavish.Very glad I purchased this. This was The Complete Paintings book I was looking forward the most I gave away my other Rembrandt book, because, come on, what could go wrong Book design ideas, that s what. For me the book is MASSIVE disappointment All the actual works are presented on black pages I get why they ve considered this idea and in theory it sounds good But for pete s sake, TEST it before you apply it to release of that scale Why is it a bad idea Looking at the pages , literally all you can see is superdistracting white dust effect of cutting, and not that easy do remove on almost every page Also seeing that annoing gloss matte difference on EVERY page is super tiresome The black borders aren t that perfect either, there is a lot of print imperfections, white stains and registration problems they obviously must ve been printed twice to achieve certain level of black saturation There are few good old white pages in introductions to particular era, and, boy, those are like a breath of fresh air.I thought it will be my ultimate Rembrandt book It is not And I wasn t so annoyed with stupid production idea since their Kubrick s 2001 book. This is a superbly beautiful book If it is at all within your budget, you have space for a huge brick of a book, and you are an admirer of Rembrandt s work, I would not hesitate to purchase this.Regarding the white specks that were so annoying to another reviewer, I don t know why my experience is so different There are very few pages in my copy that have any specks at all, and those specks tend to be limited to an area along the edge on the matte black border around the glossy paintings It is really almost a non issue in my copy. The first half of the book presents each painting beautifully reproduced The second half goes back through in a very attractive and readable way and gives detailed information about each image. Bought for my daughter doing A level art This an outstanding collection of prints and descriptions Stunning I d say very good value It s very heavy and very large so is not a carry around of a reference book This is a volume to treasure for life Produced on high quality paper, the standard of reproduction is excellent It does weigh a lot, so can only be looked at on a table or lectern. Excellent.
